My Approach
At the heart of my approach is a commitment to providing compassionate, personalised interventions, which are empowering, promote healing and foster resilience.
As a clinical psychologist, I have been trained to draw on a broad range of psychological research, theories and models, and to integrate these to meet the needs of each unique individual.
I have further specialised in cognitive behaviour therapy as this is a broad family of approaches with proven effectiveness. It allows therapist and client to work together as a team, making sense of difficult feelings, thoughts, physical sensations and behaviours, and then actively identifying what helps. It offers the opportunity for brief, focused interventions that support immediate steps towards change and enhanced wellbeing. However it also enables deeper exploration of personal patterns and beliefs if needed, leading to more more fundamental shifts in perspectives and relationships with oneself, others and the world.
I have further training in mindfulness-based approaches, as recent developments in neuroscience, along with my personal experience, have highlighted their contribution to promoting sustained change and well being. I therefore integrate Compassion Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and other mindfulness interventions as appropriate.
I also incorporate EMDR, Schema Therapy, Parts Work and Nervous System Regulation approaches, depending on personal needs and preferences.
However, all these approaches are only effective if you feel safe, heard and supported in the therapeutic relationship and I therefore strive to create a warm, open and honest relationship in which you can feel comfortable to explore your difficulties.
